Welcome to the Delegation Self-Assessment

Naturopathic Doctors in Ontario have the authority to delegate certain controlled acts. A delegation is made when a regulated health care professional who has the authority and the ability to perform a controlled act transfers that authority to a person who otherwise would not be able to perform the procedure.
This self-assessment tool has been developed to help Registrants meet their professional and legal obligations.  It uses questions to help you assess your knowledge of the delegation guidelines and practices and should be read in conjunction with the resources listed below.

Three Step Process – Read, Identify, Review and Modify

1. Read our resources
All Delegation resources are published on the College of Naturopaths of Ontario’s website.  These resources have been developed to help naturopaths identity, assess and manage delegation situations.

They include:
2. Identify
Identify situations where you delegated an act or received a delegation of a controlled act and what steps were followed to ensure compliance with the General Regulation and the Standard of Practice.

3. Review and Modify
You should regularly review your various delegation practices to ensure that they comply with the College’s regulations and standards of practice.  Where the standards are not met you should review and consider what steps will be taken to ensure compliance and the ongoing safety of patients.

Remember…NDs are fully responsible and accountable for the performance of a delegated  controlled act and must ensure that they possess the knowledge and skill required when either delegating or accepting the delegation of a controlled act.
How well do you know the requirements with respect to the delegation of controlled acts?
