As part of a Service Learning Community and Research Project, lead by Dr. Blanca Alvarado and approximately eight students in the Social Work Program, we are interested in learning more about your experiences, thoughts and feelings towards Student Advising at Austin Community College. This survey is to better help us understand different aspects of the academic adviser/student relationship.

Your answers will be used in aggregate, and we will not be evaluating individual responses. As such, please be as honest as possible - there are no right or wrong answers.

Part of Guided Pathways, an initiative ACC took on about 5 years ago, is to have Academic Advisors divided into a specific Areas of Study to allow for more knowledge and focus on a specific Area of Study. However, throughout the academic year, during 3 peak times, advising is done on a WALK-IN basis as there is a high demand to see Academic Advisors. This means that Academic Advisors see students from all Areas of Study (with more than 100 programs in 10 areas of study).
What are your thoughts on this practice? How would you address the challenge of trying to meet the high demands of students seeking to meet with Academic Advisors during these peak times?
