ACC Student Advising - Student Survey

Section I

As part of a Service Learning Community and Research Project, lead by Dr. Blanca Alvarado and approximately eight students in the Social Work Program, we are interested in learning more about your experiences, thoughts and feelings towards Student Advising at Austin Community College. This survey is to better help us understand different aspects of the academic adviser/student relationship.

Your answers will be used in aggregate, and we will not be evaluating individual responses. As such, please be as honest as possible - there are no right or wrong answers.
1.Please indicate the number of semesters you have been enrolled at ACC (if you have taken some time off, only include semesters you have been enrolled).(Required.)
2.When you first started at ACC did an Academic Advisor ask you about your academic goals—such as what you wanted to go to college for?
3.Did an Academic Advisor at this college discuss with you about how long it will take for you to reach your goals?(Required.)
4.Did an Academic Advisor at this college discuss job or career opportunities based on your career interests with you?(Required.)
5.After the first meeting, did your Academic Advisor schedule future meetings to discuss your progress and plan?(Required.)
6.Did an Academic Advisor help you develop an academic plan before the end of the first semester?(Required.)
7.In this current Fall 2019 semester, how often have you visited with an Academic Advisor?

11.Part of Guided Pathways, an initiative ACC took on about 5 years ago, is to have Academic Advisors divided into a specific Areas of Study to allow for more knowledge and focus on a specific Area of Study. However, throughout the academic year, during 3 peak times, advising is done on a WALK-IN basis as there is a high demand to see Academic Advisors. This means that Academic Advisors see students from all Areas of Study (with more than 100 programs in 10 areas of study).
What are your thoughts on this practice? How would you address the challenge of trying to meet the high demands of students seeking to meet with Academic Advisors during these peak times?
Any solutions you could offer?
(Required.)
12.Complete this sentence: “Advising at ACC is…”(Required.)
13.If you could give the leaders at ACC advice about the one or two most important changes the college could make to improve Student Success, what changes would you recommend?(Required.)
14.If you designed advising at ACC, what would it look like? Please be as specific as possible. (Required.)
