Introduction

Legal Aid Ontario’s (Legal Aid) funding has been cut by 30% by the Ministry of the Attorney General with more cuts planned in April 2020. The Ministry is also reviewing all services funded by Legal Aid, including the help provided by non-profit community-based legal clinics like the Community Advocacy & Legal Centre (CALC). CALC staff provide help in Hastings, Prince Edward and Lennox & Addington Counties, and the Tyendinaga Mohawk Territory.  We seek your views on the impact of the cuts and how legal help in our community might be improved to fill justice gaps and provide more responsive, holistic and client-centered services.

Although participating in this research may not benefit you personally, it will help CALC understand the impact of the cuts, and how we can better meet the legal needs of people who live on a low income in our community. It will also help inform our discussions with Legal Aid, so that they can better help people with criminal, family, and immigration/refugee law matters.  CALC will share results at a community forum in Belleville on November 26, 2019, which you are welcome to attend.

Completing this survey will take approximately 10 – 15 minutes.
