Dear Department and Unit Chairs, Heads, and Coordinators,

The National Association for Family, School, and Community Engagement (NAFSCE) is partnering with the American Association of Colleges of Teacher Education (AACTE), the Council on the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP), the Mid-Atlantic Equity Center (MAEC), and the National Education Association (NEA) to expand our understanding of how educators are prepared for family engagement.

We are asking chairs, heads, coordinators or directors of departments or units that oversee educator preparation programs to complete this survey in consultation with appropriate university staff as needed. Unless otherwise noted, we ask that you provide your best response for what a typical enrolled student – an undergraduate with no prior teaching or work experience and generally working towards a bachelor’s degree - is provided through the program(s) within your department. We anticipate the survey will take about 15 minutes of your time. Please complete the survey by October 31st.

The purpose of this survey is to learn from you, identify promising practices, and gather information about how educator preparation programs are preparing education candidates for effective family engagement. We define family engagement as a shared responsibility among families, schools, and communities to support children’s learning and development. Family engagement is important from birth through young adulthood and it happens everywhere children learn.

We appreciate your support for this project. All information will be presented in aggregate; your responses will not be individually reported. These findings will not be used to rank or gauge programs, but instead, to help guide our work in building stronger infrastructure for the preparation of educators for family engagement.
