Cycling New Zealand Performance Hubs are seeking expressions of interest for internship positions working with Regional Hub Coaches.

The Cycling New Zealand internship concept mirrors the successful UCI World Cycling Centre (WCC) internship programme, in which Waikato Bay of Plenty Performance Hub Coach Tim Carswell was a participant for three months in 2007 and also oversaw as the Head Track coach at the WCC from 2012-2014.

The intern positions are a voluntary role and will be for a specific discipline area, this opportunity also offers applicants to work across other areas and disciplines in order to develop skills.

·         Sprint

·         Women’s Endurance

·         Men’s Endurance

·         Strength and Conditioning

·         Sports Science

·         Mechanic

(Note - The age range of athletes will be from U17 up to U23 / Elite level).

As well as the on-the-ground practical coaching experience of being involved with the internship, other learning opportunities that may be possible are;

·         The development and implementation of session plans against an overall coaching strategy

·         Observation and interaction with the CNZ High Performance Programme, coaches and support staff.

·         Coaching and leading squads at specified campaigns (for example the NZ Elite and U19 National Track Champs)

·         Learning the skills to become a qualified Derny/Motorpace rider

The interns will be required to support the Hub Coach for a weekly session and will also need to allocate time for planning work with the Hub coach (timing of this can be flexible). Candidates will have to commit to working with the respective squads for a period through until Centre Track Champs or otherwise agreed to by individual Hub Coaches.  It will also be desirable for interns to be present at key competitions that the squad riders will be involved in.

We recommend candidates engage in the Cycling New Zealand Coach Development Programme along side the internship.

At the completion of the period of internship, interns will be awarded a Cycling New Zealand endorsed Internship Certificate in their respective discipline.
