1. Introduction
The Chartered Banker Institute is the trading name of the Chartered Institute of Bankers in Scotland which is the oldest professional body for bankers in the world. The Institute has been providing professional education for bankers for over 135 years and is the only Institute dedicated to the banking industry in the United Kingdom.
The Chartered Banker Institute offers a range of qualifications to meet the needs of the banking and financial services sector. The premier qualification offered is ‘Chartered Banker’ which is the gold standard award for professionals working in the financial services sector. It is supported and recognised by major organisations in the sector and is the Institute’s highest professional level qualification.
The Institute is now seeking views on how this flagship qualification, Chartered Banker should be developed in the future. We are seeking to make Chartered Banker even more relevant and aligned to the changing needs of the banking industry.
In a recent YouGov survey, when asked about confidence in the banking sector:-
• Almost twice as many respondents would have more trust in a banker who is a qualified Chartered Banker than a banker with an MBA.
• Almost six times as many respondents would have more trust in a banker who is a qualified Chartered Banker than a banker with a degree.
• 57% of business decision-makers, who expressed an opinion, had a preference for working with a relationship manager who is a Chartered Banker.
This survey, which contains less than 20 questions and should take 10-15 minutes to complete, forms part of our public consultation on a revised Chartered Banker qualification. We would be grateful for your comments and views, which may be submitted anonymously if wished.
Responses are invited before 25 March 2011. It is intended that, subject to the results of this consultation, the revised Chartered Banker programme will be implemented from autumn 2011.
