Voices for Change AT HOME - Spoken Word Project

Voices for Change is a spoken word project run by the Manitoba Council for International Cooperation. It is open to Manitoba youth (ages 14-24) with an interest in spoken word or related skills like drama, poetry, writing, or hip-hop, and a passion for social justice. Participants will explore global issues related to the coronavirus pandemic and share their passion and talent through a collaborative spoken word project remotely.

Participants will:
- learn about issues related to international development and the intersectionality of the effects of COVID-19.
- collaborate with Steve Locke, a Winnipeg-based professional spoken word artist
- record a video through an online platform.
- perform in front of a live audience at a later date post-quarantine (date TBD)

Interested applicants should fill out the form below. Sessions will take place remotely. Participants must have an internet connection that allows for video chatting to participate in this remote version of Voices for Change.

Project session dates will be set in accordance with the schedules of the successful applicants. The project will consist of 5-6 half-day sessions for a total time commitment of 20-25 hours.

Application deadline: Wednesday, May 13th, at 11:59pm

MCIC staff will facilitate the learning and recording sessions while Steve Locke, a Winnipeg-based spoken word artist, will lead the writing.
