The existing Environment Protection (Noise) Policy 2007 operates under the Environment Protection Act 1993 and provides a legal framework for the assessment of a wide range of noise issues.

The policy has been in place for 15 years, during this time various operational improvements have been identified. This prompted the need to review the policy, along with the commencement of related legislation including both the Local Nuisance and Litter Control Act 2016 and the Planning, Development and Infrastructure Act 2016.

The draft Environment Protection (Commercial and Industrial Noise) Policy 2022 is the result of prior consultation and internal review.  An explanatory report which provides details on all proposed changes is also available.

The draft Indicative noise level guidelines for the Environment Protection (Commercial and Industrial Noise) Policy 2022  are also now open for public consultation.
