All teachers in NSW must reach the accreditation level of Proficient Teacher, this is a mandatory requirement. Higher levels of Accreditation namely Highly Accomplished Teacher (HAT) and Lead Teacher (Lead) are voluntary and require a rigorous assessment process.

The costs associated with assessing candidates for Higher Levels is estimated at $1,400. It is proposed that 50% of this is paid by the candidate and 50% from the accreditation fees paid by all teachers.
