Submittal to New York State about the proposed Adirondack Rail Trail

My message to NYSDOT and NYSDEC

Please include the sentences I have selected below in a message to the Commissioners of the NYSDOT and NYSDEC:

Question Title

* I support the following statements for presentation to the State hearing on July 8th and to the Commissioners of NYSDEC and NYSDOT:

I praise New York's attempt to re-evaluate this under-used resource for economic benefit.

I urge immediate removal of the rails between Lake Placid and Tupper Lake in order to expedite recreational use.

I believe no rail restoration should commence without an independent study of the cost and benefits.

If analysis shows that rail restoration is a viable option, I urge the State to make such use conditioned on significant usage and annually-proven benefits.

I believe that rail restoration south of Tupper Lake will hamper snowmobile access to and from Old Forge, as well as access into St Lawrence And Hamilton counties.

I recommend that any long-term lease of the rail corridor be conditioned on proven performance and covered by an annual performance bond.

Should any approved train restoration fail to meet minimal expected benefits I urge rapid conversion to recreational use.
