Taking over Queensland Writers Centre's regular Right Left Write competitions for December and January - our annual GenreCon Short Story Comp is back for 2024 and accepting submissions of genre fiction up to 1,000 words.
 
The winning story will be published online, and announced with a special presentation and reading at our Launch Night event.
 
Entries open: 1 December 2023 - 31 January 2024.

Entry is free for members and GenreCon ticketholders; $10 entry fee for non-members.

  • 12pt Arial or Times New Roman font
  • Double line spacing
  • A4 page sizing, 3cm margins
Include the project title at the top of the first page (not included in total word count). Ensure your name does not appear anywhere in your submission.

Terms and conditions
  • Stories should be previously unpublished.
  • Entries are open to Australian or New Zealand citizens or residents.
  • One entry per person.
  • Maximum 1,000 words. Entries that exceed the word limit will be ineligible.
  • Identifying information including your name should not appear anywhere in your submission (including the file name).
  • No correspondence or feedback will be given; only winners will be notified.
  • Winning/runner-up entry/s will be published online; one winner will be invited to attend the GenreCon 2025 Launch Night event at which the award will be presented and a reading from the story given. All rights remain with the author.
  • Entry is free for all GenreCon ticketholders and members (please ensure the details on your submission match those on your ticket registration/membership). $10 entry fee for non-members.
