The Longest Minute (PG) (4th May - 12th May).
by Robert Kronk and Nadine McDonald-Dowd.

Where were you the night of the 2015 NRL Grand Final? The night when long-time underdogs the North Queensland Cowboys won in an all-QLD nail-biter that changed the game, and the state, forever. For one family of Cowboys diehards, their whole lives have led up to this moment.

Jess was born on the night of the North Queensland Cowboys’ first game in Townsville. Daughter of Foley Shield legend Frank ‘Black Flash’ Wright, she grew up as a footy fanatic with big dreams, silky skills and boundless ambition to play. But as a girl in a male-dominated sport, she faces more than her fair share of knockbacks, just like the luckless Cowboys. Despite their relentless string of losses, Jess still dares to believe in her team, and herself.

Queensland Theatre joins forces with debase productions and JUTE Theatre Company in Cairns to bring this iconically Queensland story to audiences across the state.

‘Sport and theatre have so much in common and I love them both: their sense of drama and spectacle, of heroes and villains, and triumphs against the odds. The last few minutes of the 2015 NRL Grand Final is almost the perfect piece of storytelling’
Sam Strong.

Bukal (PG) (10th July - 15th July).
by Andrea James. Storyteller Henrietta Marrie

A JUTE Theatre Company Production in association with CQUniversity

About the Work:
Bukal is Henrietta’s language name and it connects her to country, to the black lawyer vine that spreads across the rainforest that is used for so many purposes. When the vine is young it can be trained and appear very elegant. Her story is special and unique, with pride in the local and the global. It is a story that will inspire, entertain and educate. Henrietta Marrie (nee Fourmile) is a traditional owner and Elder of Cairns and is a powerful inspiration for young women, particularly young indigenous women. Henrietta received a 2014, 100 Women of Influence Award for her work in Public Policy at the United Nations University. Henrietta is focused on the promotion of culture, particularly supporting young women to aspire to greater heights.

Australia’s very first Indigenous member of the United Nations and the grand-daughter of the King of Cairns; ‘BUKAL’ is the extraordinary journey of one woman’s life that follows Henrietta Fourmile’s incredible strength and determination from the very quaint and simple shores of Aboriginal mission Yarrabah in North Queensland all the way to the world stage of Geneva, Canada and the U.S. where she impacted global Indigenous laws and legislations in the areas of Copyright, Ownership, Bio-diversity and Intellectual Property. A world exclusive, JUTE Theatre Company is honoured and privileged to produce and support the presentation of this inspiring story to audiences in partnership with CIAF (Cairns Indigenous Arts Festival) in 2018.
