Abstract Details
The Pasifika Medical Association celebrates 27 years of successful navigation this year and is proud to collaborate with Te Marae Ora Cook Islands Ministry of Health to host the 2023 conference.
You are invited to submit an abstract to present your research, models of care and best practice in relation to Pacific Health. We are accepting abstracts for oral papers. Please ensure your abstract demonstrates a connection to the conference themes. Submissions for abstracts close Friday, 16 June 2023.
Our key themes are:
BEST PRACTICE:Primary care and health system resilience
Robust primary health care systems are essential to deliver universal health coverage and achieve the United Nations’ Sustainable Development goals by 2030. Abstracts are sought for innovative models of care that integrate across systems and consider the multiple challenges faced by Pacific communities.
BOLD INNOVATION: Mental health access and integration
Mental health needs have been identified by Pacific communities and families as a priority. Traditional mental health service delivery has failed to improve access or outcomes for Pacific people. We are seeking abstracts describing new innovations in mental health. There will also be an opportunity to reflect on the innovative work undertaken in the region with the development of mental health services becoming a priority.
BEING BRAVE: Humanitarian assistance and responding to the climate crisis
Multiple health and extreme weather events have affected Pacific people disproportionately throughout the Pacific region. Efforts to mitigate the impact of the climate crisis require attention to food, water and land security. In response to these challenges, Pacific communities have led from the front with compassion and resilience. We welcome abstracts that highlight how these values have helped to rebuild as well as reshape our collective mindset towards preparedness, response and recovery.
BRILLIANT: Our future workforce
A future-ready workforce requires proactive health workers who have the skills and capabilities to act and respond to the present and future needs of our Pacific peoples. Measures to attract, grow and sustain the future Pacific workforce are critical. We invite you to share abstracts that celebrate our diverse workforce and Pacific-led training strategies.
