PLEASE READ BEFORE RESPONDING. THANK YOU.
Governors Lane faces potential impacts from two nearby development matters: the proposed Toll Brothers redevelopment at 8 Founders Lane and the recently approved 29 Thanet Circle development.
Our goal is to put Governors Lane in the strongest possible position to oppose any unacceptable proposal and, if development is inevitable, negotiate an outcome that meets our standards for access, safety, design, construction management, stormwater, buffering, environmental protection, neighborhood character, and enforceable legal and financial protections.
Following the May 21 vote, the funding plan has been revised based on community feedback. The revised approach lowers the initial authorization from $650,000 to $227,500, strengthens governance and transparency, stages funding, and requires direct community approval before any future funding phase.
Key elements:
- First collection limited to $1,000 per unit.
- The full $227,500 would not be collected or spent automatically. It is a maximum authorization ceiling, available only as needed and subject to controls and approvals.
- No unit would pay more than $3,500 without further approval.
- Funds would be held in a dedicated, segregated account.
- Monthly reporting would be provided to all owners.
- A five-member oversight committee would include two Board members and three community members.
- All expenditures would require both committee recommendation and Board approval.
- Scope includes both the 8 Founders Lane matter and the 29 Thanet Circle matter.
- Any unused funds would be returned to the community.
Funds may be used for legal, engineering, planning, environmental, traffic, stormwater, government-relations, document-review, and related professional support. Priority areas may include easement and access-rights analysis, limiting any use of Governors Lane or Founders Lane for construction access or road widening, identifying alternative construction routes, seeking enforceable protections, reviewing environmental and municipal filings, evaluating traffic and stormwater issues, and exploring less intensive or alternative uses of the 8 Founders Lane property.
This brief,
non-binding poll is intended to determine whether there is sufficient support to move forward with a formal community vote.
