Fair Housing in Marion County

Marion County is conducting a study concerning fair housing. Fair housing is the right to choose housing free from discrimination. Federal and state housing laws protect people from discrimination in housing transactions such as rentals, sales, lending, and insurance. The goal of the study is to identify whether barriers to fair housing choice exist in Marion County.

Known as the “Analysis of Impediments to Fair Housing Choice” (AI), the study is required by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) as a condition for receiving federal housing and community development funds. HUD defines "impediments to fair housing choice" as “actions, omissions, or decisions taken because of race, color, religion, sex, disability, familial status, or national origin which restrict housing choices or the availability of housing choices.”
