Empowering Latino Futures, formerly Latino Literacy Now, is a nonprofit organization (IRS #33-0868486) founded in 1997. It focuses on educational, author, community building and content issues affecting underserved communities. Volunteers are truly what drives our organization. Help update records for the Scholarship Directory. The scholarship directory is a compliation of over 2,000 sources to fund a college education. We are in the minst of transitioning the database to the web where people will be able to access it for free. This can be done on your computer remotely. Ideally a commitment of 20 to 80 hours a month. Perfect for a high school student or others who love making college equitable for everyone. Can be done remotely.

Help at the organization's office. Once the Corona Virus pandemic is over, we’d like to have a couple volunteers coming once or so a month to help organize different things at our Fallbrook office. Should be from Fallbrook or the San Diego/Temecula area.

Book Awards Ceremony. Set for Saturday, Sept. 12, 2020 at Los Angeles City College.
Set-up, preparing items, and clean-up during the day of the event.

Latino Publishing University. Set for Sept. 11-13, 2020 at Los Angeles City College.
Set-up, preparing items, and clean-up during one or the three days of the event.

Help with Latino Reads podcast. Weekend of the Book Awards Ceremony, Sept. 11-13, 2020 at Los Angeles City College. Filming the interviews and/or interview host.

Changing the Face of Education. This program's goal is to help change the diversity of teachers in the USA over the next decade. Unfortunately, the odds are against a diverse student getting a teacher that looks like them. As diversity has increased in the USA, this situation has only gotten worse. This program will use existing data to help districts understand the problem. Help us be a part of that change.

International Society of Latino Authors. Membership program. Planning for better ways to help, promote, and provide more resources for authors. Needs to be an ISLA member.

International Latino Book Awards. Annual program. Committee to promote authors through this program.

Partnership Relations. Developing better partnership relations and strategies for future and current partners. Includes proposal writing.

Latino Book & Family Festival. Sat, October 10, 2020 at MiraCosta College, Oceanside, CA 92056. Involvement in planning meetings and support.

Multicultural Book & Family Festival. Usually in April at Calfornia State University San Bernardino. Involvement in planning meetings and support.

Education Begins in the Home. Planning strategy to provide more free books to children in schools and events.

Empowering Students. Providing college, career, and financial aid resources for students.

Latino Books into Movies Awards. Every two years. Committee to help authors get noticed by the entertainment industry. Should be involved in the entertainment industry.

Future program: Kids Succeed When Parents Read. Develop strategies to fund and provide this resource program for Latino parents.

Future program: Changing the Face of Education. Advocacy, Policy, and Strategy. Increasing diversity in the teaching profession.
