Fuel Tax Credit: Can You Hang on Until 30 Sept or Longer without It?
WE NEED EVERY OPERATOR’S INPUT: TO ENSURE YOUR FUEL TAX CREDIT IS RESTORED SOONER RATHER THAN LATER
On Thursday 28th July the Federal Treasurer said during an interview on The Project that the Fuel Excise cut MAY be extended. That implies a major threat the FTC will NOT be restored for truck operators from the end of September.
IF the Fed Govt extends the Fuel Excise cut beyond 30 Sept, it is most probable they will continue to force trucking to fund 80% of the Excise cut for diesel in the trucking industry by ALSO EXTENDING the zero FTC beyond 30 September (ie YOU fund 17.8cpl of the 22.1 cpl cut to Excise while the Govt ONLY FUNDS 4.3cpl of the cut).
This is what SARTA has been warning about and fighting to prevent; so far to no avail despite a lot of publicity that we have managed to attract in SA and nationally.
IT IS ESSENTIAL THAT EVERY OPERATOR RESPONDS TO THE BELOW ANONYMOUS SURVEY.
It seems clear the Fed Govt, Treasury and the ATO are rolling the dice on the FTC and are watching to see just what % of operators do NOT pay their full BAS for the June Qtr, due to loss of the FTC.
We believe that they will make the naïve mistake of ‘concluding’ with flawed logic, if the % of underpayments of the BAS Returns is low that is proof that the zero FTC is NOT a problem.
They will overlook the reality that people who have worked all their adult life to build a business will be desperate not to lose that business and so will rob Peter to pay Paul to meet their June BAS, because nobody wants an ATO Debt!!!!!!!!!!!
It would be absurd for federal officials and Ministers to assume, as they most likely will, that operators could and will continue to rob Peter to pay Paul for another 3 months to end of September, let alone beyond.
