2021 FAST Global Summit Scholarship Application

The Foundation for Angelman Syndrome Therapeutics Summit Scholarships (FAST Summit Scholarships) provide support to assist individuals to attend the FAST Summit.   Our hope is to make it possible for people of limited means to participate in this important event. 

Scholarships will be awarded on a case-by-case basis, based on availability of funding and space at the event.

  1. Must plan to attend both the FAST Science and Educational Summit.
  2. Previous FAST Summit & Gala attendees are eligible to apply; however, priority will be given to first time attendees.
  3. Must be a parent.
  4. Must be 21 years or older.
  5. Cannot be a previous scholarship winner.
  6. Open to domestic and international attendees; however, the award is limited to the amounts listed under the FAST Summit Scholarship Award below.

Submission Requirements:
An application form (below) that includes (1) why and how the FAST Summit will benefit the applicant, (2) demonstrates financial need (availability and shortage of other financial sources/means), and (3) indicates whether this will be the first time attending the FAST Summit & Gala.  All information provided to FAST will be kept confidential.

Selection Criteria:
  1. Demonstrates financial need.
  2. Overall quality of the applicant’s statement.
  3. Priority will be given to first-time summit & gala attendees.
  4. Prior scholarship winners are ineligible.
  5. If selected for an award, applicants must confirm their ability to attend the event.
FAST Summit Scholarship Award includes the following:
  1. Economy airfare for two, not to exceed $800 in total ($400 each).
  2. One hotel room for 3 nights at the Austin Hilton at 500 East 4th Street, checking in Thursday, December 2, 2021 and checking out Sunday, December 5, 2021. Room and tax included in the scholarship; incidentals will be the responsibility of the awardees.
  3. Up to 2 complimentary gala tickets for the individual and one guest to attend the 2021 FAST Gala on Saturday, December 4, 2021.
  4. Lunch on Friday at the 2021 FAST Summit and dinner on Saturday during the 2021 FAST Gala.

FAST will purchase the plane tickets and hotel stay as detailed above and provide awardees with confirmation emails for airfare and hotel reservations and will provide the awardees up to 2 complimentary Gala tickets.

FAST is excited to reunite the Angelman community at the 2021 Summit & Gala in Austin, TX.  We have done all that we can do to ensure that we can celebrate in person this year.  The safety of our community is our top priority.  Our event will comply with the following mandates and protocols:

Texas Covid-19 Recommendations
Hilton Covid-19 Protocols

We are continuously monitoring recommendations from local health authorities and the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) for essential large group meetings and events, and anticipate that changes will be made between now and December. We recommend that our attendees continue to review local and venue mandates and protocols frequently for the latest updates on occupancy levels, PPE & wearing masks, social distancing, cleaning protocols and other important information.

In planning the 2021 FAST Summit & Gala, FAST will include COVID-19 Compliant Officers to follow guidelines set by government mandates.

Please note that each individual airline has outlined their own mandates. Each guest should check with their respective airline for COVID-19 protocols.
