Electoral Area C Curbside Garbage and Recycling Collection Service Proposal

The CSRD's Solid Waste Management Plan has identified a need to explore the option to provide a curbside collection service to Electoral Area C (South Shuswap).  CSRD staff, along with the Electoral Area Director, have worked with industry experts to develop a service model that may be desirable to residents. The CSRD is proposing a base service that would include a garbage collection cart, unlimited biweekly collection of recycling and the option for weekly garbage collection.

* 5. Under the proposed CSRD garbage collection program, residents would have the option to put out one cart of garbage (cart holds up to 120 litres or approximately 2 large garbage bags) on a weekly basis at $3 per pick up.

As part of the CSRD program, recycling would be collected in a reusable container of your choice (bin, tote, garbage can, reusable bag, etc.) and accepted materials would include: paper, newspaper, cardboard, plastic containers, lids, and steel/tin containers, cans and lids.  Unlimited recycling will be collected every second week as part of the base rate fee. There would be no additional fee for recycling pick up.

* 7. Estimated cost to residents for a CSRD collection service will include a $135 base rate and a "pay-as-you-throw" rate of $3 for each collection of the garbage cart. The following provides an estimate of annual costs based on usage of the garbage service:
