Funded by the U.S. National Science Foundation (NSF) Directorate for Engineering, the Engineering Research Visioning Alliance (ERVA) is a neutral convener that helps to identify bold and transformative new engineering research directions by engaging experts in a visioning event.

It is important that your submission be at the right level of specificity: neither too general and all-encompassing nor too specific at the level of a single research project. A successful visioning event theme should have the potential to spawn an NSF Engineering Research Center or a large DARPA research program, for example. See the concept of research opportunity spaces to stimulate your thinking.
