Guidance notes for Grant Application Form

  1. The London Mathematical Society has set aside funds to be used for making grants to support the travel costs and, where needed, the caring costs of UK-based mathematicians so they can attend the ICM 2026 in Philadelphia from 23-30 July 2026.
  2. The maximum LMS ICM2026 Travel Grant Award for Early Career Researchers is £500.00.
  3. The grants are intended to contribute to the travel costs and, where needed, the caring costs so that the grant holder can attend the ICM, not to meet them entirely. The grants are not to support attendance at Satellite meetings.
  4. Applicants should be early career mathematicians, defined as being a graduate student or within five years since their PhD completion (excluding career breaks), based at a UK institution.
  5. You do not need to be an LMS member to apply.
  6. The application form should be completed by the applicant; the link to the referee form should then be passed to a supervisor or Head of Department (or equivalent) for the completion and submission to the LMS.
  7. Applications should be submitted by 15 October 2025 and will be acknowledged by email after the closing date.
  8. Applicants who apply by 15 October 2025 will be informed of the outcome before the end of November 2025.
If your application is successful, you will be sent a ‘grant offer and claim form’ to complete.
Grants will only be paid in arrears on receipt of a completed claim form and receipts/proof of travel.
Additional funds for Caring Costs can be applied for with the CDWM Committee. More information and the application form can be found on the LMS website here.
