An Educator Leadership Opportunity

The Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco (FRBSF) Education & Outreach Department is now accepting applications for its 2018 Education Advisory Group (EAG). The EAG works with Education & Outreach staff throughout the year on content ideas, teaching activities, the use of technology, and best practices related to teaching about the Federal Reserve, economics, and the U.S. economy. EAG Fellows will be provided tools, resources, and professional development to enhance their leadership skills.

 
Who is eligible to apply?
High school and community college economics, business, and/or social studies teachers; social studies curriculum directors; language arts teachers; math teachers; online economics teachers from within the Fed's 12th District (states of Alaska, Arizona, California, Hawaii, Idaho, Nevada, Oregon, Utah or Washington).
Selected EAG Fellows will attend a 2-day orientation conference in San Francisco at our Head Office on January 18 and 19, 2018, to kick off their term and will:
  • Discuss his/her role as an educational leader within your school/district/subject area in terms of the Common Core and educational policy issues (e.g. literacy, student engagement, college attendance)
  • Learn more about the Federal Reserve, SF Fed, and its educational resources
  • Network and collaborate with Federal Reserve staff and other EAG Fellows
  • Tour the vault and Fed Center museum
Compensation
  • Round-trip airfare and hotel accommodations
  • Meals during the conference
  • $100 travel incidentals reimbursement to cover transportation costs to and from the airport and any incidentals
  • $150 per day for substitute teacher pay reimbursement, for up to two days
  • $500 stipend for full participation in all requirements of the program (payable in early 2019)
Work with the EAG throughout the year will include:
  • Pre- and post-tests of knowledge of economics and the Federal Reserve
  • Quarterly web conferences with other EAG Fellows and Education & Outreach staff
  • Teacher-led feedback focus groups with students
  • Teacher feedback surveys on FRBSF education resources
  • A presentation to colleagues about FRBSF economic education resources
  • A midterm paper
  • Attending a professional development conference in the fall
  • Monthly participation in an online discussion board

Applicants selected for the Education Advisory Group will be notified no later than October 16, 2017.

By applying, and if selected, you agree to:

  • Be available to attend and participate in all sessions of the two-day orientation conference to be hosted in San Francisco on January 18 and 19, 2018 (arriving in San Francisco on January 17) and a professional development conference in the fall.
  • Serve a one-year term through December 2018, meeting all deliverables as outlined above.
