Introduction

As we search for a Bishop, it's important to gather as much information from as many individuals as possible. What do YOU think we should seek in a Bishop? The characteristics you identify as vital to leading our diocese will guide our discernment process.

All congregants and clergy within our diocese are invited to complete the survey.

Please do not discuss the questions with one another prior to completing the questionnaire, so that the responses you record are your own.

Please give your impression as it is now, even if you feel that your opinions are not well informed and could change by talking with others.

Use the “Don’t Know” response only in those rare cases where you have no impression at all.

At the end of the survey, you will be given a chance to respond to questions about which you wish to comment.

You will need about 30 minutes to fill out the entire survey and to make comments. You cannot save your responses and return to the survey later, so please complete the survey in one sitting. Otherwise, you must start over from the beginning.

The survey uses more generic language (such as “church” or “parish”) to indicate what our Diocese has recently decided to refer to as 'faith communities.’ Likewise, the survey refers to "members" and "congregants" as language for what our church canons call 'communicants.' The survey retains the more generic terms in order to facilitate the statistical analysis that will be vital to the work of the Search Committee. Thank you for your understanding as well as your continued prayers.

A Prayer for the Election of the Bishop of West Tennessee

Almighty God, Creator, Sustainer, and Redeemer: we pray that you will continue to send your blessings to the Diocese of West Tennessee, and to all those who will participate in the search for our next Bishop. We pray that you will give us open hearts, wisdom, and clarity of thought and that our efforts will be guided by the Holy Spirit. Give us the courage and perseverance to find and elect a person who will be for us a Shepherd, who will follow in the example of Jesus Christ, and whose voice and actions will promote unity in a church and a society too often divided. May our search be a product of the love, mercy, and grace you extend to all of God’s children. Amen.
