Survey Background

The Shire of Dumbleyung continues to review its expenditure and sources of income to ensure they are receiving the best value for money possible and providing services that are utilised and beneficial to the community.

While rate rises are predicted for the coming years, Council is doing their best to consult with the community and reduce costs where possible. Value is not just about what a service costs, but how effective the service is and how important it is to the community.

A significant change in the past five years has been the decline of external funding for Landcare and Landcare administration funds. To continue to provide Landcare services the shire will be more heavily relied upon to fund Landcare administration, assets and utilities costs, particularly if no external funding becomes available for on ground projects and administration costs.

To highlight the changes, in the 2014/15 financial year the shire contributed $52,263 to provide this service. This year (2018/19), the shire will contribute approximately $105,000 to provide the same service, this equates to just over 6% of rates levied.

Income for projects and administration from external funding over the last five years has been $575,000. External funding can still be applied for in competitive rounds for on-ground projects but of course there is no guarantee of being successful.

It has been four years since the last Landcare survey it is also timely to see if there have been any changes in the services being utilised and if any new services may be required in the future and how they could be potentially funded.

Your feedback is appreciated, please take the time to complete the survey.
