Profile of People Who Are Blind, Deafblind or Partially Sighted in Canada 2025.

Lead Researcher:
Dr. Keith Gordon, on behalf of Vision Loss Rehabilitation Canada
Objectives and Summary:
We are currently conducting a national survey of people living with vision loss in order to gain a deeper insight into the demographics, nature of vision loss and issues being faced by Canadians living with vision loss. It is our intention to use the data obtained from this study for advocacy on behalf of people who are blind, deafblind or partially sighted. It is hoped that some of the insights gained from this survey will also enable services for the vision loss community to be improved.
This survey was prepared together with a team comprising people with a lived experience of vision loss. The survey can be completed online, and shouldn’t take much more than 30 minutes of your time. Your participation will greatly help other members of the community.

We do not anticipate any risks or direct benefits from participating in the survey. In compensation for your time and participation, you will have the option to enter a draw for a $100 Amazon gift card upon completion of the survey.
At any time during the survey, you may choose not to continue by closing your web browser. Your data will be discarded. Participation in this survey is entirely voluntary – it will not impact the membership or services you currently receive from any organizations now or in the future.

It is completely up to you whether or not you participate. If any question makes you feel uncomfortable, there will always be an option for you to select indicating that you prefer not to answer. Answer only questions that apply to you.

If you feel distress from answering any of the questions, we invite you to reach out for counselling services. If you need immediate support reach out to Crisis Services Canada (https://www.crisisservicescanada.ca)  and connect Toll-Free, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week at 1-833-456-4566.

Data Storage and Confidentiality:
Your responses are completely anonymous, and the data collected will remain private. Your name is not attached to the survey. Only the research team will have access to this data, and it will not be given to anyone else. All study data will be stored in a password protected data base and the results will only be reported in aggregate. Survey response data will be securely destroyed after 5 years in accordance with institutional policies and guidelines.
