Course Title:  DeltaBeam Composite Structural Framing System  - 1 PDH

Speaker:  Tarek S. Elawar, Manufacturer's representative, Peikko Group.

This presentation is an overview of the benefits of DELTABEAM® structural framing system, its ability to provide a thin floor assembly and ability to help owners / developers make their building(s) more sustainable by reducing heat loss in winter and heat gains in the summer.  The DELTABEAM® structural framing system was invented in Finland in the late 80's in order to help developers realize a faster return on investment through a shortened construction schedule and materials cost savings.

The presentation shows how additional floors can be gained with this slim composite frame system while maintaining the same building height compared to a traditional structure resulting in more revenue, reduced construction schedule, and overall cost.  Topics to be covered include benefits of slim-floor structures, how slim-floor structures are more economical than a traditional frame, the three frame systems available for the construction industry, the height of any buildings impact on the cost per sq. ft. per floor, efficient and economical grid layouts, composite Deltabeam frame requires no fire proofing and how Deltabeam frame is designed.

This presentation includes an overview of what a composite structure is as well as the benefits and advantages of using these types of systems. The program will examine industry standards and performance attributes for composite structures, enabling the design professional to select the appropriate system for a specific project. Presentation participants will understand the difference between using composite beams with either steel or concrete systems as they relate to occupant safety, environmental factors, system performance attributes, system limitations and proper product installation in terms of indoor environmental quality, human health and safety, as well as examine advancements in system performance in regard to energy savings.  The presentation will also include an overview of ARMATA Rebar Shear Rails and how it can help designers solve many of the challenges associated with Shear Forces and eliminate the need for down-stand beams, drop-down panels, column capitals, and larger foundations.

Objectives:

1.  Understanding the benefits of using composite structures in multistory (mixed-use) buildings of various types.
2.  Learning the different properties of composite structures in order to select the appropriate and most economical system for a specific project.
3.  Understand how composite structures can help reduce the carbon footprint of a building.
4.  Review UL fire-rating requirements of composite structures.
5.  Understand how rebar shear rails help provide a more efficient design against punching shear failure.

About the Speaker:  Mr. Elawar is a Civil Engineer, graduate of West Virginia University (WVU) with over 30 years of experience in the construction industry. Tarek’s expertise includes project management, general construction, precast/prestressed concrete, pre-engineered steel buildings, exterior insulation and finish systems (EIFS), geotechnical engineering, environmental consulting, and business development. Positions held were construction/installation manager, project manager, regional manager, business development manager, sales and marketing, and technical studies and development consultant.
