This survey is about the newly acquired parkland between Lake Ann and Lake Lucy, it is not about the new residential development.

The City of Chanhassen is in the process of completing a feasibility study for approximately 100 acres of recently acquired parkland between Lake Ann and Lake Lucy. This will help the City understand what opportunities and challenges (cost, constructability, etc...) there will be to develop a park preserve in this area.

The City has a 2018 concept plan for the property:

The concept plan includes natural resource preservation and trails throughout the park. It is based on the goals and findings of the City's Comprehensive Plan and the City's Park System Plan. The key principles for development of this property are:
  • Continue trails around Lake Ann to allow for an eventual loop
  • Preserve the land as a valued natural area in Chanhassen
  • Connect residents with nature, trails, and parks
  • Protect the ecological functioning (habitat, water quality, etc.) of the site
  • Celebrate Lake Ann, Lake Lucy, and this property as community amenities
As the City develops the feasibility study, some of the issues to address are:
  • Trail Surface(s)
  • Bridge/Boardwalk Connections
  • Number of trails and where they go
  • Winter Usage
  • Approach to natural resource management
Two variations of the concept plan have been developed to help understand what could happen on the site. One leans more heavily on natural resources, the other leans more heavily on user access and experience. Both variations provide natural resource protection and access to trails for residents.
