Canadian Lawyer would like your input for our inaugural Law Firm Economics survey. Through our role as a key news and information resource for the legal profession, we have identified a gap in the market for performance benchmarks specific to law firms in Canada. And so, for 2021, we have expanded our existing survey on legal fees to focus on the broader economic health of law firms in Canada.

The purpose of this survey is to accumulate data for a comprehensive benchmarking report that will help law firms leaders compare their firm’s performance with other firms based on size, geographic location, practice area and other criteria.

The following questions span firm demographics, areas of revenue growth and trends in legal fees and staffing levels as well as average costs for the most frequently provided legal services at both regional and national levels.

This year, we are also asking firms to nominate a point of contact to complete a separate questionnaire on financial performance, headcount and earnings data to ensure the resulting report is comprehensive, current and valuable.

Please note all identifying information about yourself and your firm will be kept strictly confidential and results will only be used in the aggregate.

The final results will be broken down into regional and national categories and by size of firm. This will help make it easier to gauge the economic health of Canadian law firms and will serve as a scale to compare trends over time.

The survey closes on March 12.
