In the summer of 2020, a protected bike lane will be installed on E 13th Ave from the Platte River Trail east to Speer Blvd. This proposed project is intended to extend the protected bike lane to N Grant St. East of N Lincoln, a travel lane will be repurposed into the protected bike lane. Existing parking will remain where it is available today. Protected bike lanes maximize safety and comfort for bicyclists on high-speed, high-volume roadways. At intersections, they improve safety for all roadway users by slowing turning vehicles, increasing predictability of who is supposed to be where, and by shortening crossing distances for pedestrians.

These benefits combined have been shown to reduce crashes along protected bike lane corridors by up to 90 percent.
