Thank you for your interest in the Boch Center's City Spotlights Leadership Program!

The City Spotlights Leadership Program empowers youth to become leaders in school, at home, and in their communities using their creative voices. In 2015, the City Spotlights Leadership Program featured 61 Teen Leaders from 36 different schools and 9 Boston neighborhoods- most had no formal arts training and little to no arts in their schools. The leadership, community, and career development training that the program provides creates a foundation for Teen Leaders to grow into adults who will champion change, drive innovation, and ensure our community’s long term vitality.

Program Summary
During the City Spotlights Leadership Program, teens develop skills to prepare them for future success through:
Arts and Leadership Training: Teens explore their personal identities as leaders through acting, singing, dance and spoken word with local teaching artists. Teens develop artistic pieces that both educate and inspire action about important social messages that impact their community.

Community Advocacy: Teen create interactive arts workshops to conduct with children in community centers throughout Boston on topics such as bullying prevention and building confidence. Teens deliver a presentation for government officials at the State House advocating for changes such as increased funding for youth arts programs.

Professional Development: Teens practice career skills through mock interviews, weekly networking lunches with guest speaker creative professionals, and resume development workshops.

Performance: Teen Leaders take to the streets of Boston with flash mobs and original inspirational songs, performing in parks, on sidewalks, even on the T! City Spotlights culminates in a final performance of their original works in the Grand Lobby of the historic Wang Theatre.
