Welcome to the 2023 In-Person Lab Experience Application

Thank you for your interest in Biogen's Community Lab summer program. Please review the information below regarding eligibility, the application process and how your information will be handled. Then proceed to fill out the application.

The application period begins Tuesday February 28, 2023 at 9:00 a.m. and ends Tuesday March 21, 2023 at 11:59 p.m. Late applications will not be accepted. We are not responsible for incomplete applications.
Eligibility
The Biogen Community Lab admissions committee is looking for students who are interested in learning more about science, in particular, biotechnology and who are currently enrolled in high school. At the time of the application students must be in 9th, 10th, 11th or 12th grade to apply to the In-Person Summer Program. Please note that this is a day program, no lodging is provided.
Selection Process
Admissions decisions will be made after the application deadline and preference is given to students from Cambridge, Somerville, and surrounding communities in MA; Wake and Durham counties, NC; and students from low income households and groups historically underrepresented in science. However, we welcome any and all students to apply. We evaluate all information submitted – including essay.
There is no minimum GPA requirement. References or previous science experience is not required. We will review all applications and notify applicants of their status by May 5th. Each session is limited to 32 students. Students may only attend one session.

Questions marked with an * are required. Please note that the on-line application and data collection are on a third party site (Survey Monkey). The data collected will be for the sole use of the Biogen Community Labs for selecting participants and for tracking general demographics. Data will not be shared with anyone else and data will be deleted from Survey Monkey site following the application process.
The student applicant will be asked for the following information: Name, current grade, address, email and phone for student and all parent/guardians, school name, ranked session choice, household income, background ethnicity and how you found out about the program. Students will also be asked to list any previous STEM programs they have participated in and other programs they are applying to for summer 2023.
Students will need to answer the following question in 150-250 words, “Why are you interested in participating in the Biogen Community Lab’s in-person summer program?” It is recommended that you compose your short answer prior to starting your application as Survey Monkey may "time-out".
