Welcome

Thank you for your interest in this voluntary IRB approved survey on Contemporary Commercial Music (CCM) Survey: Current State of Who's Teaching What in Non-Classical Music. The survey will take approximately 10-15 minutes.  The results will be discussed and presented at the Voice Foundation’s Annual Symposium: Care of the Professional Voice.  To ensure your participation will remain anonymous, no personal information will be collected. Your identity will be kept completely confidential and the data and their results will be anonymized and stored in a password protected file.

This study is conducted as a follow-up to an earlier study published in 2009 (Journal of Voice) by Weekly and LoVetri. The original study 2000 (published in 2003) led to the development of a CCM vocal pedagogy course and institute at Shenandoah University to address shortcomings in the training available to voice teachers.
The 2009 follow-up survey by Weekly and LoVetri found many voice teachers indicated they received only classical training and no training in commercial styles. Only 19% had training to teach musical theatre singing. Since then many colleges and universities have added or are in the process of adding courses in CCM vocal pedagogy. The purpose of this study is to provide insights into the current state of CCM pedagogical training.  If you have questions about this study, please contact:
