THE CHILDBIRTH EXPERIENCE SURVEY (CBEX) & COVID-19:
A SURVEY STUDY TO CAPTURE THE CHILDBIRTH EXPERIENCE DURING A GLOBAL PANDEMIC

2. WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF THIS RESEARCH STUDY?
The purpose of the research is to learn about how COVID-19 (Coronavirus) has impacted the childbirth experience.
 
3. WHY AM I ASKED TO PARTICIPATE?
You are being asked to take part in this research study because you gave birth during the COVID-19 pandemic.

4. HOW MANY PEOPLE WILL PARTICIPATE?
About 3,000 people will take part in this study.
 
5. HOW LONG WILL I BE IN THE STUDY?
This survey will take about 25 minutes to complete.
 
6. WHAT STUDY PROCEDURES ARE INVOLVED?
This section provides a summary of steps you will go through if you take part in this survey study. 
 
You will be asked to complete a survey.  We will ask you questions to evaluate your childbirth experience.  We think it should take about 25 minutes to complete the survey.  We will ask you to respond to questions specific to COVID-19, the events that happened before, during and after your delivery and interactions with your healthcare providers. If you feel uncomfortable or embarrassed answering any question, you may skip it. The survey will not contain any information that could be used to identify you.
 
7. WHAT ARE THE POSSIBLE RISKS OR DISCOMFORTS?
There might be some possible risks or discomforts associated with taking part in this study.  It is possible that some of the questions in the survey may make you feel uncomfortable or embarrassed.  You are not required to respond to any item that you do not wish to answer.
 
8. ARE THERE DIRECT BENEFITS IN TAKING PART IN THE STUDY?
You should not expect to benefit from taking part in this survey study.
 
9. HOW CAN MY PARTICIPATION BENEFIT OTHERS?
While no benefit is ever guaranteed, we hope the information learned from this survey study will benefit birthing people in the future. We plan to use this information to better understand how the childbirth experience has been impacted by COVID-19 (Coronavirus) and communicate the results to childbirth facilities and providers to give them an opportunity to improve their care.
 
10. ARE THERE ANY OTHER OPTIONS?
Your participation is voluntary, and you can choose to not participate in this study.  Your medical care will not be changed in any way as a result of this decision.
