As you are aware, An Act Respecting First Nations, Inuit and Métis children, youth and families, came into force on January 1, 2020. We are seeking direction from First Nations on the implementation of the Act, and this survey has been drafted in partnership with Canada and BC. We hope this survey will start the conversation and your responses will provide some guidance on priority areas.

We recognize there are many voices that need to be heard in this work and are seeking your input on who should be involved in these conversations and how. There may be some areas where First Nations leadership are most appropriate to be having discussions with, and some topics that community members, including technical experts, youth, and Elders, should feed into. Engagement informing the implementation of the Act will be an ongoing process. Every effort will be made to ensure the engagement process is inclusive and reflects the voices the proper rights and title holders, subject matter experts in child and family services, women, youth, Elders, and those with lived experience. Your input and these engagements will be critical to informing and developing a BC-specific process for the implementation of the Federal Act, including any priorities identified for changes to provincial policy or legislation.
