Council is seeking to understand how the Brimbank community feel and relate to trees.

Our goal is for Brimbank to be a ‘liveable community’ and providing  access to more trees and quality green open spaces that are accessible, cool and well-maintained helps us achieve this goal through the following strategies:
  • Council’s Urban Forest Strategy:

  • Greening The West:
https://www.brimbank.vic.gov.au/plans-policies-and-strategies/strategies/greening-west-one-million-trees-project

  • Living Melbourne:
Our metropolitan urban forest strategy https://resilientmelbourne.com.au/living-melbourne/

These strategies are seeking to increase tree canopy cover across our municipality - currently the canopy cover in the west is less than 10 percent compared to other areas in Melbourne ranging from 15 percent to 25 percent.

A canopy cover of around 30 percent makes a big difference during heatwaves by cooling the city and mitigating the heat island effects.

Council has prepared ten questions seeking feedback from the community about trees and how Council can partner with the community to create a greener municipality.
