Human Guinea Pigs or Game-Changers?
Human Guinea Pigs or Game-Changers? Exploring Clinical Study Myths and How Volunteer Participants Can Help Transform Mental Health Research and Care
Summary:
Clinical studies with volunteer participants are critical in helping researchers at The Royal to better understand, diagnose, treat, and even prevent mental illness. Despite the important value of conducting research with people with lived experience – and the incredible breakthroughs that would not have been made possible without volunteer participants – many myths and misunderstandings still exist around participation in clinical research studies:
How long do clinical studies last? Are they safe? Can I still receive mental health care while participating in a study? Can I get involved while I’m on a wait list for treatment? How can participation in research help improve my access to care?
During this session, our expert panel will answer all your pressing questions about clinical research, share examples of how clinical research at The Royal is having a direct impact on mental health care, and explain how volunteers from the community can help to transform lives through participation in clinical studies.
Presenters:
