In less than three years, more than 155 municipalities have passed declarations recognizing their residents’ right to a healthy environment. A 2014 Leger poll indicates more that 90% of Canadians support recognizing environmental rights in law.
EXPLAIN: I think it's fantastic that the Standing Committee on the Environment and Sustainable Development are recommending that, among other great suggestions, the right to a healthy environment be included in the Canadian Environmental Protection Act. If the government accepts these recommendations, it would be a landmark step toward legally recognizing our right to clean air, water and food.
