AMI 2024 Proposal Information

Thank you for your interest in presenting at the AMI 2024 Annual Conference. The AMI Program Committee looks forward to reviewing your proposal.
The AMI 2024 Annual Conference will be held July 24-27, 2024 in Rochester, New York.

Submission Dates:
Submission Opens: September 15, 2023
Submission Deadline: November 30, 2023
Notification of Acceptance: Early 2024
Themes for 2024:
AMI is composed of professionals working in a wide variety of sub-specialties and industries. We welcome speakers from all areas of practice, on a wide variety of subjects. Submissions related to the following topics are of particular interest this year:
  • Visualization in cutting-edge research
  • The science of learning
  • Artificial Intelligence (AI) and its impact on biomedical visualization
  • UX / UI / Human-Computer Interaction in interactive media
  • Visualizing medical and scientific data [data visualization]
  • International subjects
  • Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in biomedical visualization
  • Setting up and/or operating a biomedical visualization business
  • Graphic Design within medical illustration
  • Tips and tricks for common software applications
  • Refreshers in a particular area of anatomy and physiology
  • Understanding medical imaging
  • Topics of interest to professionals (i.e. business, marketing, employment, work/life balance, wellness, etc.)
  • Research updates/resolution from past AMI speakers
  • History of Medical Illustration
  • Patient education
Submissions outside of those topics are welcomed and encouraged.
Session Type Descriptions:
  • Plenary - A one-hour session given from the main session room.
  • Concurrent - A 30-minute or 60-minute session that takes place at the same time as another session given from either the main session room or alternate session room.
  • Tech Showcase - A demonstration of a technique that will be shown by the presenter; demonstrations will be shown on a flow restarting every 20-30 minutes (for a total of a three hour block of time). A break will be given approximately halfway through.
  • Workshop: A 2-hour, 4-hour, or 8-hour workshop that can introduce attendees to fundamental issues, provide background material for more focused subjects, or present innovative concepts in a specific discipline. Workshop objectives should offer a valuable resource for scientific or medical knowledge and/or a technical artistic aspect of an AMI discipline.

  • How to paint/psd various skin tones and different facial features

  • Museum/Zoo/Botanical sketching
  • Photoshop tips and tricks 
  • Playcanvas Workshop
  • Project Management
  • Substance Workflow Workshop
  • Try new art materials
  • Unity Workshop
  • ZBrush Modeling Workshop
Submissions outside of these topics are welcomed and encouraged.
General Program Areas for Submission:
AMI 2024 invites presentations engaging in, but not limited to:
  • Artistic Techniques: Digital and traditional approaches to visual communications
  • Biomedical/Scientific: Exploration of biomedical sciences for visual communications
  • Technology in Biomedical Sciences: Technological innovations in science and medicine
  • Business: Leadership, contemporary and emerging business practices, legal subjects, policies, and marketing
  • History of Biomedical Illustration: Can span any time or location but must specifically relate to the history of visual communication and education in science and medicine
