About the award

The AVTAR-BDHC Inspiring Second Career Woman Award seeks to recognise a Role Model Indian Woman Professional who has made a successful career comeback post a career break. This recognition will throw light on the resilient Indian Women Professional, who manages both home and work and has also demonstrated resilience in pursuing her professional goals. First-of-its-kind, this will witness the coming together of two organizations – British Deputy High Commission, Chennai and AVTAR – who are both committed to the cause of women’s advancement.

Eligibility criteria:

1. The nominee should have minimum of 5 years of work experience before her break.
 
2. Women who have taken career breaks for the following reasons are eligible to apply – Maternity, Child Care, Infertility Treatment, Health reasons, Relocation/Mobility.
 
3. The nominee should have taken a minimum of two (2) years of continuous break.
 
4. Women entrepreneurs, Freelancers or Consultants are not eligible to apply for the award. The woman should have made a career come back in an organisation.
 
5. Also, re-joining the same company after a sabbatical will not be considered eligible. The comeback must be into a different organization.
 
6. The nominee should have a minimum of 1 year of work experience after the come-back and a maximum of 5 years of work experience after the come-back.
 
7. The nominee should have a maximum of 15 years of total work experience.
 
8. The nominee should be working in Tamil Nadu.


The winners will be chosen by an eminent jury panel. Please note that the decision of the jury would be final.

The awards will be presented at the Queen’s Birthday Party (QBP) in Chennai hosted by the British Deputy High Commissioner (BDHC) in Chennai at his official residence, Cottingley on the International Women’s Day, March 8th, 2019. It is the most high-profile event in the BDHC Calendar and sees the senior-most invitation-only guests on the Cottingley lawns that evening -  Indian and UK business, culture/arts, government, media, civil society.
