Introduction and Overview

The National Center on Accessible Educational Materials for Learning (AEM Center) is a technical assistance (TA) center led by CAST and funded by the U.S. Department of Education, Office of Special Education Programs. The Center’s goal is to increase the availability and use of AEM and accessible technologies by individuals with disabilities in early learning, K-12, higher education, and workforce development settings. We’re selecting five states to create a national AEM Cohort. With the Center’s expert assistance, each state in the AEM Cohort will develop a coordinated system for providing AEM and accessible technologies across the continuum of state educational services.

Please read the Responsibilities, Benefits, and Criteria for AEM States before beginning this application. The following information will also be helpful as you prepare to apply:
  • The amount of time required to complete this application is expected to vary. A downloadable PDF is available for your planning purposes. We recommend that you use it to collect and organize the information your application team will need.
  • You may make edits to your application until submission. To return and edit, use the same device and web browser used to start the survey because a cookie is stored in your browser that remembers your survey responses.
  • You may note that the only required question is basic contact information for an individual on your application team. This was intentional to allow for maximum flexibility in navigating among the pages of the survey. We recommend that your application team address and be as thorough as possible on every question.

Application deadline is Friday, May 1, 2020. Notifications of decision will be sent on or before Friday, June 5, 2020.

[Note: The following States were partners in the 2015-2019 AEM Cohort and, therefore, are not eligible for the 2020-2024 Cohort: Alaska, Florida, Indiana, Iowa, Maryland, Minnesota, Ohio, and Texas.]
