Thank you for your interest in the Australia Awards Scholarship. Before you register for the orientation session, please check if you meet the following eligibility requirements to apply for a long-term scholarship in Australia. AAPNG will only invite eligible applicants to the orientation session.
  • Be a PNG citizen currently residing and working in PNG
  • Not be married or engaged to an Australian/New Zealand citizen or permanent resident
  • Be a non-serving military personnel
  • Have minimum two-years' work experience (persons with disability are exempt from this requirement)
  • Demonstrate capacity to contribute to development of sectors in PNG
  • Apply for a progressive qualification (eg, from bachelor to masters)
  • Not have previously received a long-term Australia Award in the previous four years
  • Have no criminal history or conviction

The scholarship only supports the following levels of study:

1. Bachelor’s degree: only open for courses NOT offered in any PNG institution. The scholarship does not support a second bachelor’s degree.

AAPNG does not accept scholarship applications for undergraduate study in arts, business, commerce, communications, computer science, IT, law, engineering, justice studies, management, nursing, public policy or any other programs offered in PNG.

However, an applicant with disability can apply for bachelor’s degree in any study areas offered for international students in Australia.

2. Master’s by coursework in any field of study.

3. PhD/master’s by research/master’s in philosophy in any field of study

Public Service Category

If you are a PNG public servant, it is important you check with your human resource manager or training officer that you are eligible for an Australia Awards Scholarship. You must be listed on your department’s Learning and Development Plan and be nominated to apply for the scholarship. Public servants are not allowed to apply under the open category.
