MISSOURI DEPARTMENT OF ELEMENTARY AND SECONDARY EDUCATION
OFFICE OF QUALITY SCHOOLS — ASSESSMENT

DESE has been approved by the U.S. Department of Education (USED) to participate in the Innovative Assessment Demonstration Authority (IADA) Program beginning in the 2025-26 school year. IADA allows state educational agencies meeting certain requirements to design and test innovative statewide assessments while maintaining rigor and accountability.

Through IADA, DESE is developing an addition to the Missouri Assessment Program (MAP), that is expected to replace the MAP Grade-Level assessment by 2030. This new assessment is called the Success Ready Student Assessment (SRSA). SRSA is aligned to the Missouri Learning Standards and uses relatively short, modular assessments in English language arts and mathematics at different points during the school year to enhance the instructional value of assessments and provide meaningful reporting to students, teachers, and parents.

DESE is recruiting a limited number of local education agencies (LEAs) to participate in the Grade 4 English language arts and Grade 5 mathematics SRSA pilot during the 2026-27 school year. Pilot participants will gain valuable insights into the development of Missouri’s next generation of statewide assessments. They will provide input that will shape the final design of the SRSA and its reporting. Along the way, DESE will provide key implementation support through training, guidance, and ongoing technical assistance. Students participating in the SRSA pilot will be exempt from the corresponding Spring 2027 MAP Grade-Level Assessment.
