Proposed Changes to Faculty Bylaws |
As a faculty member, you are being asked to approve changes to the Faculty Bylaws of Baylor College of Medicine. A highlighted revision of the Bylaws may be found on the intranet. Any changes to the Faculty Bylaws also require the approval of the Board of Trustees to be effective.
Summary of Major Changes
Article I: The Faculty
•Added the Faculty Clinician title and added language to allow future titles that have been properly approved
•Updated language regarding the Faculty Representative Body (now the Faculty Senate) to reflect that it is now an operational entity
•Adjusted the language on the Senate’s responsibilities for school-based activities to meet accreditation standards

Article II: Academic Units
•Moved details regarding Schools and Deans to new Article III: Schools
•Removed language regarding chief administrative officers’ responsibilities for curriculum

Article III: Schools
•Created a new article that delineates and differentiates the responsibilities of schools and their deans from Departments. (Schools were previously in Article II along with the Departments, Institutes, Divisions and Centers.)
•Separated BCM schools into sections under new Article III
•Updated language within school sections to be compliant with accreditors
•Renamed School of Allied Health Sciences to School of Health Professions

•Replaced “Acting” with “Interim” when describing temporary administrative assignments

•Documented how Deans of schools are appointed
•Removed approval requirement for appointment to institutional committees from Section B
