Miss English is not just an incredible educator, but a vibrant and irreplaceable presence in the school community. Her boundless energy, infectious personality, strong enthusiasm and deep dedication to student success makes her an exceptional teacher and role model. I have been fortunate enough to have had both of my children spend their 3rd grade school year in her classroom, and I have witnessed firsthand the profound impact she has on the lives of her students.

From the moment you step into Miss English’s classroom, you can feel the magic. Her bubbly personality and engaging teaching style create an environment where students are excited to learn. Miss English has an extraordinary way of making each and every student feel valued, loved, and inspired. She loves what she does, and it is evident that teaching is not only her “job” but her passion. She pours her heart and soul into her students every day.

What truly sets Miss English apart is her unwavering dedication beyond the classroom. She consistently stays after school to provide extra help, prepare lesson plans, and support school activities. Jessica McEntarfer- Olde Providence Elementary- Charlotte, NC

There are hardly words to describe the heart and soul that Jessica McEntarfer (affectionately called “Ms. Mac” by students and staff) pours into her profession. She teaches first grade at Olde Providence Elementary in Charlotte, North Carolina, and is truly the embodiment of a Teacher All Star. Every day she transforms ordinary moments into teachable ones—not only in reading, writing, and math, but also in kindness, empathy, and self-respect. Her students leave her classroom with strong academic skills and a deeper understanding of how to care for themselves and others.

Beyond her classroom, Jessica has created programs that directly meet the needs of her community. Recognizing the challenge of food insecurity, she founded a backpack program that ensures children have nourishing food from Friday through Monday. Despite her limited free time, she personally stuffs backpacks, secures donations, and fills in gaps herself. Understanding that hunger doesn’t end with the school year, she extended the program into summer with “Summer Socials.” Every Friday, teachers and staff gather at a nearby housing community—home to many of the school’s most vulnerable children—to share game, food, and friendship, while distributing backpacks filled with essentials. These gatherings not only nourish families but also build lasting bonds. Parents report that children who once dreaded school now look forward to returning, thanks to the love and consistency they feel from Ms. Mac.

Jessica’s vision also brought new opportunities for students through athletics. She proposed and organized Olde Providence’s first 4th- and 5th-grade basketball team, joining a volunteer-led league within Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools. Through her efforts, the school secured uniforms, coaches, and community support. The team’s inaugural season was nothing short of remarkable—finishing 10–1 and winning the CMS championship. The pride and excitement it generated carried throughout the school, and this year the program is expanding to include a cheerleading team, again led by Jessica’s determination.

Yet Jessica’s proudest moments remain personal. When asked by her principal what accomplishment meant the most, she shared the story of a student who began the year with serious behavioral and emotional struggles. Jessica never gave up, continuing to encourage and celebrate even the smallest victories. Over time, she witnessed a transformation—the student arrived each day with more joy, more confidence, and new friendships. To Jessica, that is the true heart of teaching: helping each child grow into a lifelong learner.

Her students consistently exceed state expectations for growth, but it is her compassion, creativity, and tireless dedication that make her exceptional. Every initiative she has led has been done on her own time, without additional pay or recognition. Her efforts have changed lives, uplifted families, and strengthened the entire Olde Providence community. In every sense of the word, Jessica McEntarfer is a Teacher All Star.
Felicia Hillyard - Uwharrie Charter Elementary -Asheboro, NC

It is with great enthusiasm and sincere appreciation that I nominate Felicia Hillyard for recognition as an All-Star Educator. As a third grade teacher, Mrs. Hillyard exemplifies the true meaning of dedication, advocacy, and excellence in education. Her classroom is a space where every child is held to high standards and given the amazing opportunity to truly learn skills they will use for life. Through her tireless efforts, she has closed learning gaps and created a culture of achievement, inclusion and exponential growth.

What sets Mrs. Hillyard apart is her relentless commitment to seeing her students grow. She approaches success one question at a time. She teaches it’s important to celebrate the one right answer! That one right answer creates a new goal of two the next time. So before you know it, all the answers are correct and a confident student who knows how to study and work hard is born! Through small group instruction, targeted interventions and innovative learning strategies, she has effectively closed learning gaps that would otherwise widen over time.

Felicia is not only a skilled teacher, she is a fierce advocate for her students. She communicates regularly with parents and guardians, while also helping families build bridges to other school resources. She works closely with specialists, counselors, and administrators to ensure that no student slips through the cracks. Her advocacy extends beyond academics as she is deeply attuned to the social-emotional needs of her students, teaching them to believe in themselves and in one another. She holds all students accountable for their actions, while still constantly reinforcing the good in them. These students receive grades that reflect their very real hard work.

Perhaps most importantly, Mrs. Hillyard fosters a classroom culture built on equity, high expectations and the joy in a job well done. Her students know they are capable of great things because she shows them by celebrating their progress, no matter how big or small. She models resilience, encouraging her students to take risks and learn from mistakes. When faced with a hard subject or problem, her students know how to handle it even years after leaving her classroom.

Felicia represents the best of what teaching should be. Her impact reaches far beyond the walls of her classroom, inspiring students, colleagues and families alike. It is a privilege to nominate her for this well-deserved honor. Thank you Felicia for being the one to close the gap and change a life forever.
