Purpose

Volunteer project support is intended to encourage volunteer projects that address:

Disaster Preparedness, resiliency, and mitigation: Helping communities prepare for, respond to and recover from natural and man-made disasters, including 1) recognizing risks, 2) planning ahead, 3) gathering supplies, and 4) what to do during a disaster. A project must be cost-effective and substantially reduce the risk of future damage, hardship, loss, or suffering resulting from a disaster.

Supporting Veterans & Military Families: Serving those who have served us, as well as engaging the talents of our veterans and military families.

Public Safety: Activities that protect community residents from fire or personal/property crime; provide for access to public safety personnel such as teaching school children about proper use of 911, matching law enforcement personnel with young volunteers to serve together etc.

Inspiring Michigan Residents to Rise and Serve Their Community: Carry on the legacy of that fateful day that inspired Americans to rise and serve each other in the spirit of freedom.  Volunteer recruitment fairs/campaigns and events qualify under this category and must provide proof of newly recruited volunteer rosters.

Please note these funds are available solely to engage people in service projects – not community engagement events (i.e. prayer breakfasts, educational marches, ceremonies, etc.).  Other unallowable expenses include volunteer snacks/food, t-shirts, staff salaries, and office equipment such as laptops, printers, copiers, etc.
