NHSTA 2019 Spring Conference Workshop proposal form

Request For Proposals for the New Hampshire Science Teacher’s Association Spring Conference to be held at Pinkerton Academy, in Derry, NH on Saturday, May 4th, 2019 from 8:00 am - 3:45 pm.
Important!!  Please carefully read the following!
NHSTA is beginning to plan our annual spring conference.  We are looking for proposals for workshops.  Each workshop proposal will need to address the requirements listed below for content areas:  Theme: Planning and Carrying Out Investigations.  From the NGSS: "Scientists and engineers plan and carry out investigations in the field or laboratory, working collaboratively as well as individually. Their investigations are systematic and require clarifying what counts as data and identifying variables or parameters."
Current New Hampshire Standards for K-12 science emphasize carrying out investigations as learning tools for all students at all levels. From identifying components of systems to quantifying their relationships; mathematics and science are intimately connected. 

This NHSTA conference will offer elementary and secondary teachers an opportunity to learn from one another and to learn together. We encourage presentations that merge disciplines and celebrate how they enhance each other to benefit our students’ understanding. This does not imply that each workshop has to have two teachers (or presenters); but workshops that assist this natural relationship between our disciplines through various uses of Planning and Carrying Out Investigations will be sought. Additional overlapping practices include those focused on problem solving and reasoning or explaining using mathematics and computational thinking. All of the practices will be delineated for each workshop as well as grade area focus.

Thank you for your willingness to submit a proposal to present a  workshop at the 2019 NHSTA Spring Conference on Saturday, May 4, 2019 at Pinkerton Academy, Derry, NH. Your interest in participating as a presenter is an indication of your commitment to quality science education in New Hampshire. We applaud your efforts.  We will have room for about 16 90-minute workshops and 8 60 minute workshops in 3 sessions. 

Before you begin the workshop proposal process, please have ready:
...Your complete contact information.
...A short, 2-3 sentence description of your workshop for the booklet.
...A longer, 5-6 sentence, description of your workshop for the review committee.
...Some information as to how your workshop applies to the topic of "Planning and Carrying Out Investigations"  (you can scan the questions below to help)

It is expected that, barring extenuating circumstances on the presenters' parts,  all accepted workshops will be held as scheduled on 4 May 2019.

Proposals are due by February 8, 2019. We hope to notify presenters  about their proposals acceptance by February 20, 2019 (that is the goal!).

NOTE 1: Registration and lunch will be provided for at most two presenters per workshop.
NOTE 2: We will again do a "Pre-conference workshop" sign-up as part of the registration process.  We will contact presenters about 1 week in advance of the conference with their workshop numbers.
NOTE 3: Tentative session schedule:
Registration  8:00 - 8:45.  Keynote  8:45 - 9:30.  Break  9:30 - 9:45.  Workshop Session 1 (90 min)  9:45 - 11:15.  Break 11:15 - 11:30.  Workshop Session 2 ( 90 min) 11:30 - 1:00.  Break  1:00 - 1:15.  Lunch / Awards  1:15 - 2:15.  Possible Panel / Workshop (60 min)  2:15 - 3:15

Technology for the Conference: Presenters must supply their own computers and any necessary adapters for Mac users. In each room there is: a projector with VGA cable to connect to a PC, and a screen. Wireless internet is available throughout Pinkerton Academy.
