Peel Watershed Statement of Support

* 1. We, the undersigned groups, express our support for the First Nations of the Peel Watershed as they work to protect their cultural homeland from industrial development. We recognize the Peel Watershed as both a culturally irreplaceable and ecologically priceless wilderness that is important for the people of the Yukon and North America as a whole. The Peel represents the northern anchor of the Yellowstone to Yukon region, one of the great mountain ecosystems on Earth. We share the First Nations' vision of keeping the Peel Watershed wild and pristine. We envision the designation of legally binding protected areas across the 6.8 million hectare / 16.8 million acre Peel River watershed. These designations would allow traditional and subsistence uses, wilderness tourism, hunting and fishing, but no industrial development or industrial surface access.
