Submission information and nomination criteria:

  • Submit applications by 02/15/19.
  • Must be a member of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (the Academy) to nominate. Self-nominations are accepted.
  • Nominations for multiple awards is allowed. Submit a new application for each award/nomination.
  • All nominees, with the exception of Outstanding Contributions to Goals of AZAND (OCGA), must be a current member of the Academy and first-time recipient for the award. Each award has additional and unique criteria below:
 
Outstanding Dietitian of the Year (ODY)
  1. Is a RD/RDN.
  2. Active participation in the national, state, or district association.
  3. Demonstrated leadership, e.g., in legislation, research, education, management, etc., in the Association, community or employment.
Recognized Young Dietitian of the Year (RYDY)
  1. Must be 35 years or younger as of May 1 of the current year.
  2. Is a RD/RDN.
  3. Active participation in the national, state, or district association.
  4. Demonstrated concern for the promotion of optimal health and nutritional status of the population.
  5. Demonstrated leadership, e.g., in legislation, research, education, management, etc., in the Association or employment. One award per district available.
  6. Each District Board will make the final selection for their District RYDY and forward to the Awards Coordinator. 
Recognized Nutrition and Dietetics Technician of the Year (RNDTY)
  1. Is a DTR/NDTR.
  2. Active participation in national, affiliate, or district association.
  3. Demonstrated concern for the promotion of optimal health and nutritional status of the population.
  4. Demonstrated leadership, e.g., legislation, research, education, clinical dietetics, foodservice management, public relations, career guidance, etc., in the association or employment
Emerging Dietetic Leader (EDL)
  1. Initial practice experience not less than 5 years and not greater than 10 years. Interrupted careers or time periods not in practice, are not to be considered or rationed into the 5-10 years of professional practice experience.
  2. Active participation in the national, state, or district association for at least 5 years.
  3. Is a RD/RDN or DTR/NDTR.
  4. Not previously selected as an RYDY or RDTY.
  5. Demonstrated concern for the promotion of optimal health and nutritional status of the population.
  6. Demonstrated leadership, e.g., in legislation, research, education, management, etc., in the Association, community or employment.  
Outstanding Contributions to Goals of AZAND (OCGA)
  1. Individuals who have contributed significantly to the goals of the association through their work (i.e. media personnel, legislators, or other health care providers).
  2. Not eligible for AND membership (i.e. not an RDN, DTR, or ACEND student).
  3. Up to three awards available.
Outstanding Dietetic Student Award (ODSA)
  1. Students must be members of the AND by January 1 of the year they would receive the award.
  2. Student enrolled in ACEND-accredited dietetics education program (CP, DI, DPD, DT). One award per program type available.
  3. Demonstrated academic achievement as documented by letters from program faculty or preceptor. 
  4. Demonstrated leadership and professional potential; e.g., honors, student dietetic association or community service activities, etc.
