The purpose of the St. Mary’s County Transportation Plan (TP) is to identify current and future transportation needs in the county. The TP uses a 20-year planning horizon to provide guidance for multimodal transportation improvement strategies. These include highway, public transit, bicycle, pedestrian, and horse-drawn buggies. The transportation plan will include a list of proposed projects that help the County meet its long-term transportation vision and aligned with the CSMC Policy Framework visions. The fiscally constrained transportation projects will meet the needs of the county and address county residents’ concerns. Currently, DPW&T is updating the 2006 Transportation Plan. The update goals are:
  • Provide a balanced and connective multimodal transportation system that makes it easier for residents to bike, walk, or take public transit to reach their destinations.
  • Coordinate land use decisions and transportation investments to improve travel and promote an efficient, interconnected, multimodal, and accessible transportation network for all county residents.
  • Enhance the quality of life with planning strategies that minimize environmental impacts to protect and preserve the environment, heritage, rural character, and natural resources.
