Introduction

On 21 October 2020, the Select Committee on the provisions of the Public Health Amendment (Registered Nurses in Nursing Homes) Bill 2020 was established to inquire into and report on the Bill. Further information about the inquiry including the terms of reference is available on the committee's website.

As part of the inquiry, the committee is seeking the views of interested stakeholders via the following online questionnaire. Responses to the questionnaire may be used in the committee's report. Names and contact details of respondents will not be published.

Please note that while responses to the questionnaire detailing the personal experiences of stakeholders will inform the committee's views, the inquiry will not be conducting investigations or reviews of individual cases. If you wish to make a specific complaint, you can contact the Aged Care Quality and Safety Commission here: https://www.agedcarequality.gov.au/making-complaint

Further, this questionnaire is not intended to provide a forum for respondents to make adverse reflections about others.

The Australian Government has policy, funding and regulatory responsibility for the aged care system. Currently, residential aged care providers are required to make decisions about staffing and comply with the Commonwealth Aged Care Act 1997 and the Aged Care Quality Standards.

This inquiry will examine whether additional staffing regulations should be required for NSW aged care facilities, how appropriate staffing in the aged care system impacts on our public health system and lessons from the COVID-19 pandemic.

Thank you for taking the time to participate in this important inquiry.
